Speech for School’s Opening Ceremony

Goodafternoon, everyone. My name’s Amanda from Class 1, Grade 11. Itis my great honor to stand here today as a member of the InternationalDepartment and the delegate of students. Thank the principal of LyndonInstitute for coming from so far to attend the School’s Opening Ceremony. Then welcome all the new students, you guys couldbring a lot of fresh energy and strong power to the school.

Today Iwould like to share some of my experience, what I have done and learnt for thewhole year. There are several essential points and tips. At first, rememberyour responsibility of various roles in family, society, especially in school.Only if everyone takes care of the environment around, does his or her duty ontime, the class can be kept in order and assignments can be arranged properlyand efficiently. As the study commissar of Class 1, I am devoted to my workwholeheartedly. I am in charge morning reading and self-study in the evening,make sure the homework is handed in and sent back on time.

The secondpart is about activities which play an significant role in universityapplication and it is what most students worry about. In addition to scores andGPA, what else can we gain from high school life? That would be activities. Asa member of Student Union, I organized “Group Mutual Aid”activities between 4 classes to get full preparation for SAT2 test.Thanks to the passion of my classmates, hundreds of books arranged by us weredonated to the poor primary school in the countryside. In terms of StudentAssociation, I actively join the American Debate Competition which   is a great training to deliver my argumentsin logic. Besides, in this semester I have established A Cappella music clubwith a group of crazy fans of melodies and voice. On holiday, I have been avolunteer of Science and Technology Museum. My essay on meteorology deviceswere spoken highly of. Due to interest, I also took part in a English TalentCompetition and got first prize in Anhui Province. Several speeches I made inpublic got me overcome my anxiety, rise up to speak with courage. See,activities are everywhere, as long as you pay attention to look for them.

The finalpoint I am going to say is class participation. When I was still a freshmanlike you guys, I was so afraid to be chosen to deal with the difficulties thatnone of my classmates is willing to do. I believe you may also have this kindof confusion right now or in the future. Actually, the reason that you are alwayscalled could be that you are the one who have the most unique insight. Youreally should grasp this opportunity and set up a good model for whole classinstead of avoiding it.

The year Ispent here sounds like the most extraordinary part of my 16-year life. I trulyappreciate such a gorgeous arena and all these chances No.8 High Schoolprovides me to explore my potentials and show my personality. Now more chancesare waiting for you, enjoy your time in this awesome school.
