Last week, our debate club invited a lecturer from NHSDLC (National High School Debate League of China ) to have a speech to our new club members.

The teacher named Tim, which is the same as our AP calculus teacher. However, unlike our maths teacher, this Tim is truly handsome, attractive and adorable, with a strong speech skills. He did the master’s degree in Harvard University, and joined the debate club when he studied there. And we could know he is a great debater from the way he thinks when he is giving examples.

At first Tim and debate club members imitate a debate, about ” have a dinner in KFC or Mcdonald’s ”, and our new debaters really had a nice try, they spoke loudly and tried to view the topic from several different perspectives. And then, Tim used this example to show fundamental rules in debate, also he explained the significance and importance of debate. Everyone took a note and answered questions actively. And even someone who has already took part in some formal debate match learned something new and meaningful.

At last, the Chinese majordomo accompanied Tim this also encouraged people to take part in the debate match in Oct. 18th in Hefei No.8 High School, which is exactly the school we are in. And the point is, this majordomo had been our teacher last year. Grade 2 club members were surprised and glad that he could find a great job like that and came back so that we could see him again. It is really a nice sense to have a reunion without preparation.

This lecture had finished after about one hour, and many club members were still stayed here for asking questions. Everyone got benefits more or less,”it is an excellent lecture and I learned a lot”, one of the new club members said. It seemed like that one-hour lecture is not enough for the debate club members, but after a few days, when our school holding the debate match, we could meet and talk with plenty of debate professionals. It is not only a good choice to try the real debate, but we can learn much more. Why don’t you have a try?
