If I were a teacher

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I’m glad to present my speech If I were a teacher. Well, as usual, I should start with a brief self-introduction, but to fit in this topic, I want to have a role-play. Everybody please look at me and imagine that I’m just a teacher standing here talking about my own understanding of education. Since the public judgement of teachers are mainly of two aspects: technique and attitude, I’ll start with them as well. 

Firstly, teaching techinques. There was an old saying in China: Anyone who wants to learn must have teachers to pass on the truth and get rid of ignorance. The importance of teachers can clearly be seen. Personally, I treat the ability of obtaining knowledge more importantly than knowledge itself. Just as the saying goes: Giving a man a fish is no better than teaching him how to fish. In my classes, I will focus on leading my students to think critically and independently, developing their teamwork skills and motivating their curiosities. Once their curiosities were motivated, they would work hard to discover the mysteries of natural world, therefore learning become intiative, and the curiosity become inspiration. This would form a benigh cycle as well.

Secondly, teaching attitude. Once I choose teaching as a lifetime career, I would devote myself whole-heartedly into it. In my point of view, the seven letters of teaching means: Toleration, Enthusiasm, Attention, Creativity, Happiness, Efficiency, and Responsibility. Take creativity as an example, everybody knows 1+1=2, but never think of other posibilities. If I were a teacher, I would ask them to think: what if it is a bag of powder plus a basin of water? The answer would be totally different. Though it’s just another way of thinking, you can help your students to jump out of the limits of common knowledge. We should connect our education with real life, and make clear that creative people are the most important resources of a strong nation. In total, we should be fully aware of what we are about, we teach not simply to finish our mission, or to see our class top the honour roll, but to develop useful people for society. To make clear that students are not necessarily inferior to their students, love them, learn from them, and treat every pupil equally.

To draw a conclusion, if I were a teacher, I would make my education rewardless, enjoyable, creative and dedicated. After all, the essence of education is dedication.
